BATON ROUGE, LA – Tyler Dunn, 23, of Baton Rouge, has confessed to his role in a pair of brazen armed robberies targeting Dollar General stores in November 2019, according to federal court documents. Dunn pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Brian A. Jackson to interference with commerce by robbery – a federal charge carrying significant penalties.
The first robbery occurred on November 17, 2019, at the Dollar General located at 4755 Prescott Drive. Dunn, along with three masked and armed accomplices, stormed the store, each wielding a handgun. Witnesses stated one of the robbers directly threatened a cashier, leaping over the counter to steal approximately $7,000 from the safe while a Dollar General employee was present. Dunn himself allegedly forced an employee to the front of the store, holding her at gunpoint during the heist.
Just four days later, on November 21, 2019, Dunn and the same crew targeted another Dollar General, this one at 6365 Scenic Hwy. This time, the robbers confronted two employees outside the store as they prepared to lock up for the night. Brandishing their firearms, they forced the employees inside. One robber held an employee at gunpoint while ordering him to disable the alarm and escort them to the back of the store. Approximately $1,200 was stolen from the safe, taken by an employee against her will.
Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), alongside the Baton Rouge Police Department and with assistance from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, pieced together the evidence linking Dunn to both robberies. The investigation focused on identifying the masked suspects and tracing the stolen funds, ultimately leading to Dunn’s arrest and subsequent guilty plea.
U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. announced the guilty plea, signaling a step forward in bringing the perpetrators of these violent crimes to justice. While Dunn has admitted his involvement, the fate of his three accomplices remains unclear. Federal sentencing guidelines will determine the length of Dunn’s prison term, but interference with commerce by robbery carries a substantial maximum penalty.
Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy S. Johnson is prosecuting the case.
