Defendant Sentenced for Child Abuse and Methamphetamine Distribution

A Mission, South Dakota man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the child abuse and distribution of methamphetamine.

United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced that Tyler Erickson, Sr., also known as TJ Erickson, age 33, was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $300 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The charges against Erickson included two counts of Child Abuse and one count of Distribution of Methamphetamine. He was accused of using and abusing drugs, including marijuana, methamphetamine, and prescription pills, and was also involved in selling methamphetamine on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation to support his drug habit, as well as for profit.

Erickson’s behavior became increasingly aggressive and mean towards his family, including his girlfriend, Rae Dawn Lunderman, and their children. He was accused of slapping or hitting one of his twin sons, who later died due to blunt force trauma.

Lunderman, age 28, was separately sentenced to 10 months and 15 days in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. She was accused of being an aider and abettor to the offenses.

The child abuse and distribution of methamphetamine occurred between at least January 2013 and December 2014. Erickson pleaded guilty to a three-count Superseding Information charging two counts of Child Abuse and one count of Distribution of Methamphetamine on March 30, 2016.

Lunderman pleaded guilty to a Superseding Information charging Child Abuse on September 28, 2015. Both Erickson and Lunderman were sentenced on July 18, 2016, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange.
