Tyler Williams, Trafficking Methamphetamine and Fentanyl, Missouri 2023

Akron man Tyler A. Williams, 32, is headed to prison for a long, long time after a federal judge slammed him with a 10-year, 3-month sentence for trafficking in meth and fentanyl.

The sentence was handed down in U.S. District Court in the Western District of Missouri by the Honorable Brian C. Wimes after Williams pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

According to court documents, Williams was busted in April 2022 after law enforcement executed a search warrant on his residence in Akron, Missouri. During the search, agents found over 240 grams of methamphetamine, 10 grams of fentanyl, and a .45 caliber pistol.

Williams was not supposed to be in possession of any firearms while he was out on parole for a previous conviction.

Williams’ lawyer had argued that his client was a ‘low-level drug dealer’ who was caught up in the circumstances and that he was not a major player in the trafficking operation.

However, the prosecution pushed back, saying that Williams was a ‘significant player’ in the trafficking operation and that he had been involved in the sale of controlled substances for years.

U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson for the Western District of Missouri said in a statement that Williams’ sentence sends a clear message to those who engage in this type of activity: ‘we will seek to hold them accountable and put them behind bars.’

Williams will be serving his sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas.
