Hartford Man Arrested with 88 Grams of Fentanyl, Faces 5-Year Sentence

Hartford, CT – In a shocking turn of events, 35-year-old Tyrick Thomas was arrested with a staggering 88 grams of fentanyl, a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine and xylazine, at his Ashley Street residence on July 16, 2024. The arrest was the result of a search warrant executed by the DEA New Haven Task Force, the ATF, and the New Haven Police Department.

During the search, authorities also discovered nearly 200 wax folds of fentanyl and xylazine in Thomas’s vehicle. The sheer quantity of the substances seized has raised concerns about the severity of the fentanyl trafficking crisis in Connecticut.

According to court documents, Thomas pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years. The sentencing is scheduled to take place on October 22.

Thomas has been detained since his arrest, a move that has been welcomed by law enforcement officials who believe that it has prevented potential harm to the community.

The investigation into Thomas’s activities was a collaborative effort involving the DEA New Haven Task Force, the ATF, and the New Haven Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John T. Pierpont, Jr. as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing gun violence and other violent crime in Connecticut.

Project Safe Neighborhoods brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. For more information about the program, please visit www.justice.gov/psn.

Tyrick Thomas’s sentencing marks a significant blow to the fentanyl trafficking ring in Hartford, and law enforcement officials are hopeful that it will serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar activities.
