U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona Honors Fallen Officers in Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — In a heartwarming gesture, U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona recognized the service and sacrifice of federal, state, and local law enforcement officers during National Police Week.
Attorney General Merrick Garland echoed U.S. Attorney Escalona’s sentiment, stating, ‘This week is a time to honor our law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.’
U.S. Attorney Escalona added, ‘During Police Week, we honor the brave men and women in law enforcement for their selfless sacrifice to protect the citizens of the Northern District of Alabama, especially the six officers in our district who gave their lives in the line of duty.’
According to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), 394 fallen officers were added to the wall in 2020, and their names will be read during a Virtual Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
The NLEOMF’s Virtual Candlelight Vigil will be livestreamed to the public at 8:00 pm EDT, and can be viewed on the NLEOMF YouTube channel found at https://www.youtube.com/user/TheNLEOMF.
In-person public events were initially scheduled for May, but have been rescheduled to October 13-17, 2021, due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
