Counterfeit Currency Scheme Unfolds in Pittsburgh

A brazen scheme to distribute Ugandan manufactured counterfeit currency has been brought to a halt in Pittsburgh, thanks to the diligent efforts of federal investigators.

Robert T. Dent, a 30-year-old North Carolina man, a/k/a Bullionaire, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy and transferring counterfeit currency in federal court. The guilty plea was entered before United States District Judge Mark Hornak.

According to court documents, Dent served as a reshipper in the United States for the distribution of counterfeit currency manufactured in Uganda. The currency was being sold online by an individual using the moniker Willy Clock.

The investigation that led to Dent’s prosecution was a collaborative effort between the United States Secret Service, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai is handling the prosecution of Dent on behalf of the government. Judge Hornak has scheduled sentencing for May 13, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of 25 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both.

The guilty plea marks a significant victory in the fight against counterfeit currency and the illicit activities that support it. As the investigation continues, authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of those who seek to undermine the integrity of our financial system.
