Poplar Bluff Man Faces 20 Years for Gun and Drug Charges

A 23-year-old Poplar Bluff man is facing up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Antwoine Carnell Johnson was arrested on July 31, 2018, after a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer stopped him for speeding and discovered that his license was revoked.

During the traffic stop, officers located drug scales, heroin, methamphetamine, a loaded revolver, and $6,574 in suspected drug proceeds in Johnson’s vehicle.

Johnson’s sentencing is set for November 6, 2018, and he faces a maximum punishment of 20 years of imprisonment and a fine up to $1,000,000 on the drug charges and not less than five years, nor more than life on the firearm charge.

The case was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with Special Assistant United States Attorney Timothy J. Willis handling the prosecution for the government.

Johnson’s guilty plea is a significant blow to the local community, which has seen a rise in drug-related crimes in recent years.

The guilty plea is also a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies in Missouri, who continue to work tirelessly to keep their communities safe.
