Meth Amphetamine Bust Lands South Portland Man 5 Years in Prison
A South Portland man has been sentenced to five years in prison for attempting to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to a recent court ruling. U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank announced the sentencing of Patrick Clark, 53, who pleaded guilty on July 16, 2019.
Chief Judge Jon D. Levy handed down the sentence, which also includes four years of supervised release. The charges stem from a case investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. On January 4, 2019, postal inspectors seized a package containing approximately 111 grams of methamphetamine, which had been addressed to Clark’s apartment.
Following the seizure, law enforcement officers executed a second search warrant at Clark’s apartment, where they discovered 11 grams of methamphetamine, more than $800 in cash, and a digital scale in the bedroom where Clark was present.
The investigation revealed that Clark was attempting to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine, posing a significant threat to public safety. His conviction serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in illicit drug trafficking activities.
Clark’s sentence is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combating the scourge of narcotics in our communities. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service deserves credit for their diligent work in uncovering this illicit operation.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank highlighted the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle and disrupt the networks that seek to bring harm to our communities through the illicit trafficking of drugs.’
The case serves as a cautionary tale for those involved in the distribution of narcotics. The consequences of being caught can be severe, as seen in Clark’s five-year prison sentence and four years of supervised release.
