SALT LAKE CITY – In a groundbreaking sentence for the Uintah Basin region, Travis Davies, 47, of Vernal, Utah, has been sentenced to 97 months’ imprisonment and three years’ supervised release for his role in the trafficking of narcotics. Davies was caught with hundreds of blue fentanyl pills, marking a significant victory in the fight against drug crime.
The sentence was handed down on June 5, 2025, after Davies pleaded guilty to possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute on the same day in 2025. His downfall began when law enforcement executed a search warrant at his Vernal residence on November 9, 2024, where they seized 296 blue fentanyl pills (33 grams), a digital scale, and several small plastic baggies.
Davies’ criminal history is steeped in drug trafficking. He has been known to law enforcement as a distributor of fentanyl and was caught with pills while on pretrial release for multiple other drug trafficking cases. His actions did not stop there; Davies also obstructed justice during investigations into his drug trafficking activities.
This case was meticulously investigated by the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office’s Vernal Resident Agency, demonstrating the federal government’s commitment to eradicating drug crime in the region. Assistant United States Attorney Sam Pead of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah prosecuted the case with determination and vigor.
The sentencing of Travis Davies is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that mobilizes the full resources of the Department of Justice against illegal immigration, cartels, transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and violent crime. This operation is made possible through the combined efforts of the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).
