Utah Man Clayton Hit With Child Porn Charges
SALT LAKE CITY – John Reid Clayton, 29, of Stansbury Park, Utah, is facing a federal indictment for alleged production and possession of child pornography. According to the charges, Clayton is accused of using four minors born in 2007, 2010, and 2011 in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions.
The Tooele County Sheriff’s Office, the Tooele City Police Department, and the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children task force conducted the investigation leading to the charges. A federal arrest warrant has been issued for Clayton, who is currently in state custody.
Each count of production of child pornography carries a potential sentence of 30 years in prison with a 15-year minimum mandatory sentence. Possession of child pornography could result in a 10-year prison term. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Indictments are not findings of guilt; Clayton is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
The grim nature of the allegations underscores the gravity of the charges against Clayton and the ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation.
