Seattle – Kaleb Michael Scott, a 24-year-old man from Vancouver, Washington, was today sentenced to 21 years in prison for producing images of child sexual abuse. The sentence, announced by U.S. Attorney Nick Brown, comes on top of a previous 20-year sentence handed down by Clark County Superior Court, which will run concurrently with the federal sentence.
Scott has been ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release and is subject to lifetime supervised release following his prison term. Chief U.S. District Judge David G. Estudillo imposed the harsh punishment, noting that Scott’s actions were not only despicable but also calculated.
According to court records, in 2021, Scott was entrusted with the care of an infant and later uploaded images of child molestation to Snapchat. His phone, which contained 34 images of sexual abuse, was linked back to him through a forensic examination, despite his relocation to Utah. The investigation revealed that Scott also used Google search terms related to child sexual abuse.
Assistant United States Attorney Hillary Stuart argued for the 20-year sentence in court, emphasizing that Scott not only molested the infant but also disseminated images of the abuse online and engaged in detailed discussions about his actions on social platforms. “As a trusted caregiver,” Stuart wrote, “the defendant horrifically abused his position and preyed upon the infant.”
Chief Judge Estudillo echoed these sentiments during the sentencing hearing, stating that Scott’s use of personal relationships to gain access to vulnerable victims was particularly egregious. The Vancouver Police Department’s Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit conducted the investigation, while Stuart prosecuted the case.
Scott now faces a bleak future as he begins his lengthy sentence for what is widely considered one of the most despicable crimes in our time. His actions have left an indelible mark on the lives of those affected and serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by predators who use technology to commit their heinous acts.
