Vincent Camarda, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of A.G. Morgan Financial Advisors, LLC (AGM), made a chilling admission in federal court in Central Islip today when he pleaded guilty to securities fraud and investment advisor fraud. The admitted con man faces a potential 20-year prison term for his deceitful scheme that siphoned off $160 million from investors.
Camarda’s fall from grace began with the filing of charges by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) against him, which accused him of masterminding an elaborate Ponzi-like scheme. The defendant stood before United States District Judge Nusrat J. Choudhury as he admitted to the charges, leaving no room for doubt about the gravity of his actions.
AGM, a Long Island-based investment firm, was at the center of the fraud, with Camarda at the helm. The defendant’s conviction means that when he is sentenced, he will be required to pay restitution of at least $160,022,836.81 and face forfeiture of an additional $6,639,498.17, a stark reminder of the financial devastation his actions have caused.
According to authorities, Camarda used investor funds for personal gain and to pay off earlier investors in what is known as a Ponzi scheme. The fraudulent activities were carried out with such precision that many victims remained unaware of the fraud until it was too late.
The plea deal came after an extensive investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). As the defendant awaits sentencing, the financial community and the public alike are left to ponder the impact of such greed on the lives of those who trusted him with their hard-earned money.
Camarda’s case serves as a stark warning against financial misdeeds and underscores the relentless efforts of federal law enforcement to crack down on white-collar crime. The full extent of his punishment will be determined at his sentencing hearing, which is expected in the coming months.
