Memphis Gang Leader Convicted in Murder Case
In a shocking turn of events, a federal jury in Memphis has convicted a high-ranking member of the Unknown Vice Lords (UVL) for his involvement in a gang-related murder. Vincent Grant, also known as "V-Slash," 41, of Memphis, was found guilty of causing death by use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, specifically murder in aid of racketeering.
The crime took place on January 15, 2019, when Grant and other UVL members brutally executed one of their own, leaving the body on display as a warning to those who would betray the gang. The jury deliberated for less than an hour before delivering the verdict, which sent a strong message to street gangs that their violence will not be tolerated.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Grant was a high-ranking member of UVL, also known as The Ghost Mob, which controlled territory throughout the entire city of Memphis and beyond to Arkansas and Mississippi. Members of the gang committed murders, burglaries, assaults, human trafficking, and drug trafficking on behalf of the enterprise.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case, along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Memphis Police Department, and United States Secret Service. The Justice Department and ATF turned this case from a cold case into a conviction, and they remain committed to working closely with law enforcement to tackle even the most challenging cases.
Grant is scheduled to be sentenced on September 19 and faces up to life in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The conviction is a significant blow to the gang and a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies in bringing violent gang members to justice. The case serves as a warning to street gangs that their violence will not be tolerated, and that those who commit such crimes will face severe consequences.
