Wichita Man Escapes Custody in Kansas
A Wichita man has been charged with escaping custody in Kansas, according to federal authorities.
Wade Dunn, 30, of Wichita, Kansas, is facing one count of escape from custody after allegedly leaving the Mirror, Inc., Residential Re-entry Center in Wichita without permission.
Dunn was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison in July 2017 for unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In July 2019, he was transferred to the residential re-entry center in Wichita to serve the remainder of his sentence.
On Sept. 23, 2019, Dunn was given a pass to leave the halfway house at 9:30 a.m. and was expected to return by 5:30 p.m. that day. However, he failed to return and was later arrested in connection with a random stabbing in the 7400 block of East 17th Street North.
Dunn could face up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted. The Wichita Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Treaster and Assistant U.S. Attorney David Lind prosecuting.
Dunn is being held pending trial and is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The indictment contains allegations of criminal conduct and does not imply guilt.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said that Dunn’s actions were a serious breach of trust and a threat to public safety.
