Wakpala Man Sentenced for Assault and Child Abuse
Wakpala, SD – A local man has been sentenced to 293 months in custody for his role in a brutal assault that left his victim with serious bodily injuries and ultimately led to their death. Stoney End Of Horn, 37, was also convicted of four counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.
The assault occurred in September 2008 near Wakpala, when End Of Horn repeatedly struck the victim on a rural road, causing multiple facial fractures and internal injuries to the victim’s brain. A surgeon who repaired the victim’s face described the bones as “busted up so bad they were like a bag of potato chips.”
The victim never fully recovered from the assault and died at Triumph Long-Term Care Hospital in Mandan, North Dakota, on June 25, 2010, due to complications from a cerebellar infarction caused by the assault.
End Of Horn, who had previously been convicted of Possession, Manufacturing, and Distributing Child Pornography, also engaged in repeated sexual acts with a minor victim he was caring for in Wakpala in 2010. The victim considered End Of Horn to be a father figure.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency, the National Park Service, and the Mobridge Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Troy R. Morley and Mikal Hanson.
U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann sentenced End Of Horn to 293 months in custody, 5 years of supervised release, and a $500 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. End Of Horn was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced the sentence, stating that justice had been served. The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of violent crime and child abuse on victims and their families.
