MINNEAPOLIS, MN – In a shocking turn of events, MARC BELL GONZALES, 29, from Wayzata, Minnesota, has been charged with conspiracy to commit arson, according to United States Attorney Erica H. MacDonald. The charge stems from an alleged act of setting fire to the Wells Fargo Bank building in south Minneapolis.
On May 28, 2020, GONZALES is accused of pouring gasoline on the bank property as a means to accelerate the blaze. This brazen act has prompted law enforcement agencies to issue an urgent appeal to the public for information related to any acts of arson or violence associated with recent unrest in the city.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and FBI are urging citizens to report suspected arson, use of explosive devices, or violent, destructive acts. Specific attention is given to business fires in the Twin Cities area. The public can provide tips by calling 1-888-ATF-TIPS, emailing ATFTips@atf.gov, or submitting information anonymously via ReportIt.com.
The FBI has also extended its request for digital material or tips related to any incited or promoted violence. Individuals with such information are encouraged to call 1-800-CALLFBI or visit tips.fbi.gov.
This case is a joint effort between the ATF, Minneapolis Police Department, and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Winter will be prosecuting the case. It’s important to note that all charges against GONZALES are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
