Christopher Grays, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Arkansas 2024

LITTLE ROCK—A second federal firearm conviction has landed Christopher Grays, 25, of West Memphis, in prison for the next 120 months. United States Attorney Jonathan D. Ross announced the 10-year sentence handed down by United States District Judge James M. Moody, Jr.

Grays was initially indicted on June 6, 2024, and pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm on February 4, 2025. The judge imposed three years of supervised release following the prison term, which exceeded the recommended sentencing range. There is no parole in the federal system.

This sentence follows Grays’ previous conviction and imprisonment for 46 months in November 2020, also for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was released on October 4, 2023, and arrested again while in possession of two firearms on February 28, 2024.

According to testimony at today’s sentencing hearing, West Memphis Police were called to a hotel room where they found Grays with an extended ammunition magazine. Officers located two firearms, including one loaded with the same ammunition, in the toilet tank of the hotel bathroom.

Judge Moody considered numerous police reports detailing Grays’ involvement in alleged gun violence, starting as a juvenile. Over five years from 2015 to 2020, he was mentioned in more than 17 police reports, predominantly for violent conduct.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the West Memphis Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Chris Givens prosecuted the case.
