Christopher Charles Mathis, a multi-convicted felon from Little Rock, Arkansas, has been sentenced to over sixteen years in federal prison for the illegal possession of a firearm. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney Jonathan D. Ross for the Eastern District of Arkansas and imposed by United States District Judge James M. Moody, Jr.

Mathis, 43, pleaded guilty on February 13, 2024, to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The court handed down a sentence of 195 months—more than 16 years—in the Bureau of Prisons, followed by three years of supervised release.

Mathis’ record is lengthy, including convictions for residential burglary, domestic battery of a pregnant woman, terroristic threatening, and drug possession with intent to deliver. He was indicted on May 3, 2023, for his latest offense.

The incident that led to Mathis’ sentencing unfolded on July 22, 2022, when Little Rock Police Department officers responded to an apartment complex after a report of a man openly carrying a firearm. Mathis’ sentence reflects his classification as an armed career criminal, with the maximum penalty facing him including life imprisonment without parole.

This investigation was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Little Rock Police Department.
