Daniel P. Sprowl, Possession of Child Pornography, West Virginia 2016

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A disturbing case of child exploitation has unfolded in West Virginia, where a local man has admitted to possessing child pornography.

Daniel P. Sprowl, a 54-year-old resident of New Martinsville, Wetzel County, has pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Possession of Child Pornography.’ According to court documents, Sprowl admitted to possessing images of child pornography involving children under the age of 12 in November 2016.

Sprowl’s guilty plea comes after a thorough investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the West Virginia State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen L. Vogrin is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

U.S. Attorney Bill Powell announced the guilty plea, stating that Sprowl faces up to 20 years incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant, as per the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr., presided over the case. Vogrin’s diligent work has brought justice one step closer to the victims of child exploitation.
