Carlsbad Woman Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Production of Child Porn
A Carlsbad woman has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to production of a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
Rachel Michelle Crutcher, 38, of Carlsbad, was sentenced on February 21, 2023. She was found to have produced the child pornography with the intent of distributing it.
According to court documents, Crutcher was involved in the production of child pornography with her husband, Joseph Crutcher, 59, of Carlsbad. Joseph Crutcher admitted to taking the pictures and claimed Rachel was unaware of his conduct. However, Rachel initially denied knowledge or involvement, but later admitted to being involved.
Through diligent investigation, agents determined that both Rachel and Joseph had sexually abused the minor child with the intent of producing child pornography. Joseph Crutcher sent the images to a Task Force Officer working for the Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
Rachel Crutcher will be required to register as a sex offender upon her release from prison and will be on supervised release for life.
Her husband, Joseph Crutcher, pleaded guilty to one count each of production of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, and possession of child pornography on February 27, 2023. He remains in custody pending sentencing, which is currently not scheduled. At sentencing, Joseph faces 70 years in prison and must register as a sex offender.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
