Joshua Michael Evans, 45, Sentenced to 14 Years for Possession of Child Pornography
Anchorage, AK – Joshua Michael Evans, of Eagle River, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for possessing images of child pornography.
EVANS, who was previously convicted in 2001 by the State of Alaska for sexual abuse of a minor, disappeared in October 2017, prompting a manhunt by U.S. Probation, the FBI, and Alaska State Troopers. He remains at large.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office advised that anyone with information regarding Evans’ whereabouts are encouraged to call the FBI Anchorage Field Office at 907-276-4441.
According to court documents, Evans became the subject of a federal investigation in May 2016 after law enforcement officials discovered he was using the internet to download videos and images of child sexual exploitation.
Evans pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography on November 2, 2016, and was placed on pretrial release pending sentencing. However, he failed to appear for sentencing and has been a fugitive ever since.
The FBI and Anchorage Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the successful prosecution of this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Alexander prosecuted the case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office commends the efforts of U.S. Probation, the FBI, and the Alaska State Troopers in responding to Evans’ disappearance.
This case is part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a nationwide effort to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
