Wilkes-Barre Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking
SCRANTON – In a major blow to the methamphetamine trade in Luzerne County, 38-year-old Emile Occean of Wilkes-Barre has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for distributing the deadly drug.
According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, Occean was responsible for distributing methamphetamine in Luzerne County on March 31, 2022, and April 12, 2022. This brazen move by the defendant has caught the attention of law enforcement and the community alike.
Occean’s prior record paints a picture of a career offender. With two prior drug distribution convictions, two robbery convictions, and a burglary conviction, it’s clear that Occean has a history of putting the community at risk.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts prosecuted the case, bringing Occean to justice for his crimes.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities. By bringing together law enforcement and community organizations, PSN seeks to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
As part of the PSN strategy, the Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy in May 2021. This strategy focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
With Occean behind bars for the next decade, the people of Luzerne County can rest a little easier knowing that one less methamphetamine trafficker is on the streets.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe from the scourge of methamphetamine and other narcotics.
