Buffalo, NY – In a shocking turn of events, a Mayville man has been found guilty of sex trafficking a minor and will spend the rest of his life behind bars. William A. Quinones, 51, was sentenced to life in prison by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. on charges of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and sex trafficking of a minor.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Aaron J. Mango and Franz M. Wright, who handled the prosecution of the case, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint in July 2021 that Quinones had been sexually abusing two children over the past eight years. A subsequent investigation identified a total of four minor victims.
The victims, who were all minors at the time of the abuse, stated that Quinones raped or attempted to rape them, and also physically abused them. Quinones threatened the victims with violence or threatened to hurt their families if they disclosed what he was doing.
One of the minor victims, who was referred to in the indictment, had regular sexual contact with Quinones beginning when she was just eight years old. The victim told investigators that Quinones started paying her in exchange for sexual contact, beginning when she was 13 years old until age 16 years old.
Quinones’ actions were the result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Erin Keegan, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff James Quattrone.
The sentencing comes as a relief to the victims and their families, who have been waiting for justice for years. Quinones’ crimes are a stark reminder of the devastating impact of sex trafficking on its victims.
