A Charleston man has been sentenced to four years and nine months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine.
On June 16, 2013, police conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 79 in Charleston, West Virginia, where they found 3,747 individually wrapped doses of heroin and nearly 100 grams of cocaine in the vehicle of 28-year-old William Charles Landon, IV.
Landon later consented to a search of the vehicle, and the police seized the aforementioned illegal substances.
According to the police, Landon told them that the cocaine and heroin belonged to him.
This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team, and Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks handled the prosecution.
U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced the sentencing of Landon, who had previously pleaded guilty in October 2013 to the charges.
United States District Court Judge Thomas E. Johnston handed down the sentence in Charleston, West Virginia.
Landon’s sentence reflects the severity of the offense and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions in the face of the ongoing opioid crisis.
The sentence was handed down in accordance with the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
