William Heitman, Child Pornography Possession, Wisconsin 2020

Verona man sentenced to 12 years for child pornography possession.

A Verona man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography. William Heitman, 35, was found in possession of over 1,000 videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct in June 2020. Heitman had previously served a sentence for possessing child pornography and was on extended supervision at the time of his arrest.

According to authorities, Heitman was found sleeping in his car in a park in Verona when police officers discovered the images. He admitted to downloading the images and soliciting them from others through online groups. Heitman also admitted to being an administrator for two groups engaged in trading images of child pornography.

At sentencing, Judge William M. Conley expressed concern over Heitman’s failure to engage in treatment while in state prison and his lack of understanding of the seriousness of the offense. Conley also noted that Heitman’s role as an administrator of the online groups made him an active part of the plague of child pornography on the internet.

Heitman’s state supervision was revoked in July 2020 due to the federal offense. As a result, his federal sentence will run concurrently with the remainder of his four-year state sentence. Heitman was also ordered to pay $9,000 in restitution to three of the victims depicted in the images.

The charge against Heitman was the result of an investigation conducted by the Verona Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Julie Pfluger and Laura Przybylinski Finn prosecuted the case.

Heitman’s sentence is a reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable. The case highlights the need for continued efforts to combat the spread of child pornography online and to support victims of these crimes.
