A former Oklahoma teacher has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for sex crime. William Joseph Daniel, a 46-year-old man from Stephens County, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David L. Russell on January 6, 2023.
The charges against Daniel stem from incidents that occurred while he was employed by the Marlow Public School System. Between February 1, 2022, and May 12, 2022, Daniel allegedly touched the body and private parts of a student in a lewd and lascivious manner, and digitally penetrated the private parts of the same student.
Daniel pled guilty to sexual battery on July 8, 2022. He was subsequently sentenced to serve 18 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the case was prosecuted in federal court because the victim is a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe and the crime occurred within the boundaries of the Chickasaw Nation, and within the Western District of Oklahoma.
The FBI Oklahoma City Field Office and the Marlow Police Department conducted the investigation that led to Daniel’s arrest and prosecution. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany Noble prosecuted the case.
Daniel was remanded to federal custody at the conclusion of the sentencing hearing. Upon his release from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
