Tevon Harris, a 22-year-old man from Houston, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for sex trafficking of children.
A federal judge has handed down a harsh sentence to Tevon Harris, also known as ‘Da Kidd’ and ‘King Kidd,’ for his role in forcing young girls into prostitution. Harris pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking children under 18 for commercial sex in April 2014.
According to the plea agreement, Harris met the victims on social networking sites and promised to help them become models. Instead, he would take them to motel rooms and force them to have sex with him. Harris would also deprive them of their cell phones and use violence to keep them cooperating.
The victims were photographed and their images were posted in online ads for prostitution. Harris kept all the money they earned.
One victim was deprived of food for over four days, and another was beaten with a towel rack torn from a motel room wall when Harris found her using the phone to call her mother for help.
Harris’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge David Hittner, who also ordered him to spend the rest of his life on supervised release and register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by the Houston FBI Innocence Lost Task Force, which includes agencies such as the Houston Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sherri L. Zack as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Harris will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
