Providence Man Pleads Guilty to Trafficking Heroin and Fentanyl
Wilson Garcia, 33, of Providence, has pleaded guilty to trafficking heroin and fentanyl in Rhode Island, despite being on bail in Massachusetts for a similar charge. According to court documents, Garcia sold heroin and fentanyl to an undercover DEA agent on multiple occasions between December 2014 and September 2015.
The transactions took place at Twin River Casino in Lincoln and at Garcia’s Providence residence. The agent purchased a total of 20.7 grams of heroin for $2,200 in cash and 2.1 grams of fentanyl for $280 in cash.
Garcia was arrested on April 9, 2014, in Massachusetts on a heroin trafficking charge, but continued to sell the drugs while out on bail. He was eventually arrested again on September 23, 2015, and released on $5,000 bond.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Gerard B. Sullivan. Garcia remains free on $5,000 bond pending sentencing by U.S. District Court Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., on August 23, 2016.
U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha and DEA Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Ferguson announced the guilty plea. Garcia faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison on each of the heroin charges and a maximum of 10 years on the fentanyl charge.
Garcia’s guilty plea comes as a result of an investigation by the DEA Task Force 1 in Boston and the Norfolk County Police Anti-Crime Task Force.
