Woman Charged in Assault With Intent to Commit Murder
A 31-year-old woman from Little Eagle, South Dakota, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for a violent crime that could send her to prison for up to 20 years.
Roxanne Spotted Horse, 31, was arraigned in U.S. District Court on assault charges, including assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
According to the indictment, Spotted Horse was charged with assault with intent to commit murder, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. She was also charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury, each of which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Additionally, the indictment includes a $250,000 fine and a 3-year period of supervised release. Spotted Horse is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The investigation into the assault is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley is prosecuting the case.
Spotted Horse was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal and a trial date has not been set.
