Filing False Tax Return Lands Woman 5 Years Probation
By Grimy Times Staff
A Ranson, West Virginia woman is behind bars, but only on probation, after being sentenced to five years for filing a false tax return. Christina Jacobs, 42, will serve her time on probation, paying $11,963 in restitution and facing a hefty price for her crime.
Jacobs’ troubles began in 2012, when she and her husband filed an income tax return that willfully understated her income from 9 West Hair Studio by approximately $32,030.70. The underreported income left the couple with an unpaid tax due, sparking a full-blown investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod J. Douglas handled the prosecution on behalf of the government, while the Internal Revenue Service led the investigation. Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the case.
Jacobs pleaded guilty to one count of “Filing a False Tax Return” in September 2017. Her guilty plea marked the end of a long and grueling ordeal for all parties involved. The court’s decision now leaves Jacobs to face the consequences of her actions.
As Jacobs begins her five-year probation, she will have ample time to reflect on the consequences of filing a false tax return. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of honesty and integrity when dealing with financial matters.
The U.S. Attorney’s office is committed to holding those accountable who willfully attempt to deceive the system. This sentence sends a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated and will be met with swift and severe punishment.
Christina Jacobs is a prime example of the consequences of filing a false tax return. Her case serves as a warning to those who may be tempted to bend or break the rules.
It’s a harsh lesson, but one that may just keep others from following in Jacobs’ footsteps.
