Tampa, FL – In a major blow to the local drug trade, United States District Judge Thomas P. Barber has sentenced Larry Lee Woodard, Jr., 30 from Bradenton, and Jesse Leahy, 49 from Sarasota, each to ten years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Court documents reveal that the duo was involved in a conspiracy to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine in Bradenton and Manatee County. Their illegal activities resulted in the distribution of more than 1.5 kilograms of meth throughout the region, posing a significant threat to public safety.
The investigation into Woodard and Leahy’s operations was a collaborative effort by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which included Homeland Security Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Central Florida Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) also played a crucial role, with support from local law enforcement agencies including the Bradenton Police Department, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, North Port Police Department, United States Coast Guard Investigative Service, Palmetto Police Department, Sarasota Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Assistant United States Attorneys Maria Guzman, David Sullivan, and Suzanne Nebesky prosecuted the case with determination. The OCDETF Program, known for its intelligence-driven approach to dismantling high-level criminal organizations, is a key player in these efforts, further enhancing public safety across the nation.
