Armed Robbers Dress as Police, Get Caught
ATLANTA – In a brazen attempt to rob a drug stash house, Woodrow Rudolph Dixon, Jr., and Cornelius Bernard Wilson, both dressed as police officers, were sentenced to federal prison for their crimes. The two men, who had planned to conduct home invasions while impersonating law enforcement, were caught in the act by undercover ATF agents.
According to United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates, the men were planning to rob a man named ‘Tony,’ a high-level cocaine trafficker in the Atlanta area. However, ‘Tony’ was actually an undercover narcotics Task Force Officer for the DEA who had been working to take down Dixon’s crew.
The ATF investigation revealed that Dixon, leading a crew, had carried out previous armed robberies of houses with the purpose of stealing cocaine or other drugs. Wilson was identified as a member of the crew and was arrested on June 21, 2012, the day of the planned robbery. Dixon, who had left Atlanta, directed the actions of his crew over the telephone.
To prepare for the robbery, the men dressed up in police gear, including police badges, and armed themselves with loaded firearms. They met with two undercover ATF agents who they believed were going to lead them to ‘Tony’s’ stash house. Instead, the men were arrested and taken into custody.
Both Dixon and Wilson were convicted of federal charges, with Dixon receiving a 20-year prison sentence to be followed by six years of supervised release. Wilson pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in connection with the drug charge.
The sentencing of Dixon and Wilson sends a clear message that impersonating law enforcement to commit armed robberies will not be tolerated. It also highlights the dedication of law enforcement agencies to combating violent crime and making our communities safer.
