Andrew Gonzalez, Heroin Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2024

A 30-year-old York, Pennsylvania resident has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking scheme operated out of a York City home.

Andrew Gonzalez, 30, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Yvette Kane for his involvement in a heroin trafficking operation that was uncovered during a search warrant executed by the York City Police in March 2013.

According to United States Attorney Peter Smith, the search warrant turned up a significant amount of illicit substances, including 35 grams of crack cocaine, cocaine, and heroin. The majority of the heroin – 900 bags – was found floating in a toilet.

Gonzalez and co-defendant Veronica Rivera pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute drugs. A third defendant, Andrew Alexander, was convicted last month after a jury trial. Rivera was sentenced to two years in prison on May 4, 2016, while Alexander awaits sentencing.

The investigation into the heroin trafficking operation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the York City Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael A. Consiglio and Scott Ford prosecuted the case.

The case against Gonzalez is part of a district-wide initiative to combat the nationwide epidemic regarding the use and distribution of heroin. Led by the United States Attorney’s Office, the heroin initiative targets heroin traffickers operating in the Middle District of Pennsylvania and is part of a coordinated effort among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

The sentencing of Gonzalez marks another victory in the fight against heroin trafficking in the region. As the opioid crisis continues to ravage communities across the country, law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to dismantle heroin trafficking operations and bring those responsible to justice.
