Youngstown Man Admits Fentanyl & Fluorofentanyl Conspiracy

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A Youngstown, Ohio man is facing serious time after admitting his role in a large-scale fentanyl and fluorofentanyl distribution network operating in Western Pennsylvania. The guilty plea, secured by federal prosecutors, underscores the relentless flow of deadly narcotics into the region and the ongoing fight against the opioid crisis.

Teqwan Scott, 29, entered his plea before Senior United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab, confessing to conspiring to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and 10 grams or more of fluorofentanyl. The timeframe of the conspiracy stretched from May 2021 to October 2022, indicating a sustained and deliberate effort to flood the streets with these dangerous substances. Federal authorities haven’t revealed the full scope of the operation, but the quantities involved suggest a significant operation.

United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan’s office announced the guilty plea, a small victory in what feels like a never-ending war on drugs. The case highlights the interstate nature of the opioid trade, with drugs originating in Ohio and making their way into Pennsylvania communities. Investigators are likely still working to untangle the entire network and identify all those involved.

Scott now awaits sentencing, scheduled for October 1, 2024. He’s looking at a potential prison sentence of no less than five years and up to 40 years behind bars. A hefty fine of up to $5 million could also be levied. The final sentence will be determined by Judge Schwab, taking into account the severity of the crimes and Scott’s criminal history, if any.

Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller is spearheading the prosecution. This wasn’t a solo effort; a multi-agency task force brought Scott down. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, United States Postal Inspection Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Lawrence County Drug Task Force, Mercer County Drug Task Force, New Castle Police Department, Sharon Police Department, and Pennsylvania State Police all contributed to the investigation.

The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the sentencing of Teqwan Scott. This conviction serves as a warning: those who profit from the misery caused by fentanyl and other dangerous drugs will be held accountable, but the demand continues to fuel the supply, leaving communities vulnerable. The opioid epidemic isn’t just a law enforcement problem; it’s a public health crisis demanding a comprehensive solution.
