Jefferson Chancay-Sanchez, a 26-year-old illegal alien from Ecuador, was caught with a hidden app containing child pornography on his cellphone near Uvalde, Texas, on June 15, 2025. Chancay-Sanchez had unlawfully entered the US near the Eagle Pass Port of Entry and was placed under arrest by US Border Patrol agents. A search of his phone led to the discovery of an application disguised as a calculator, which contained multiple images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material.
Chancay-Sanchez admitted to downloading the child pornography from WhatsApp and saving it to a hidden folder on his phone. A forensic examination of his cellphone revealed 31 images and one video depicting child pornography, as well as 48 images and 15 videos considered to be child erotica material. Some of the material depicted toddlers, prepubescent, and adolescent males and females engaged in sexual activity.
Chancay-Sanchez was named in a two-count indictment on July 16, 2025, and charged with one count of transportation of child pornography and one count of possession and access with intent to view child prepubescent pornography. He pleaded guilty to both counts on December 22, 2025, and was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
The case was investigated by the US Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations, and prosecuted by Assistant US Attorneys Ashley Ellis-Dotson and Nallely Duarte, with Special Assistant US Attorney Steven Shilling handling the sentencing.
