Sixteen illegal aliens were convicted of federal immigration crimes in Florida in June. The aliens, from countries including Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and El Salvador, were found guilty of illegal reentry by a removed alien. The convictions were announced by US Attorney John P. Heekin, who stated that his office will continue to aggressively prosecute criminal illegal aliens. The cases were investigated by various law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and ICE.
Among those convicted were Abraham Flores Tercero, 48, of Nicaragua, who was previously removed in July 2009, and Dualder Velasquez-Granados, 28, of Guatemala, who was previously removed in May 2018. Others included Alcides Miguel Martinez-Martinez, 42, of Honduras, Miguel Ico Martinez, 29, of Mexico, and Jose Ricardo Hernandez-Perez, 23, of Mexico.
The defendants were encountered in various counties in Florida, including Leon, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Escambia. The convictions are a result of the ongoing efforts by the US Attorney’s office to secure the borders and enforce immigration laws.
The US Attorney’s office has vowed to continue prosecuting criminal illegal aliens who attempt to reenter the country illegally. The convictions serve as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal immigration laws.
