MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Tyson Gene Goins, a 21-year-old resident of Wagoner, has entered a guilty plea to federal firearms charges, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced.
Goins faces up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine for Possession of a Stolen Firearm, stemming from his alleged possession of two semi-automatic pistols on April 19, 2025. He also pleaded guilty to Illegal Receipt of a Firearm by a Person Under Indictment or Information, carrying a potential five-year sentence and the same fine.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Checotah Police Department. The Indictment alleged that Goins received the firearms while under indictment for a crime with a prison term exceeding one year, on April 6, 2025.
U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow accepted the plea and ordered a presentence investigation report to be completed. The actual sentence will be determined by U.S. District Court after considering Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
Goins remains in custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia Staubus represented the United States in the case.
This is a grim reminder of the dangers associated with illegal firearm possession and the relentless efforts of federal agencies to combat gun crime in Oklahoma.
