Crisantos Javier Sotelo Valencia, Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Distribute, Utah 2026

A stash of 240,000 fentanyl pills, worth a small fortune, was discovered hidden inside wooden furniture panels at a West Valley City, Utah, home. The pills, estimated to be worth around $1.2 million, were seized by FBI agents on March 25, 2026.

The suspect, 27-year-old Mexican national Crisantos Javier Sotelo Valencia, had been under investigation for months. He was already facing federal charges for an earlier drug case and had been deported on October 30, 2025, but managed to return to the US.

A review of body camera footage from his arrest on March 3, 2026, revealed videos of Valencia with large amounts of cash and narcotics, including fentanyl. Further investigation led agents to the furniture, which they searched and found the fentanyl pills.

The total weight of the fentanyl seized was 23,701.63 grams, nearly 24 kilos. Valencia faces a single charge of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute and is scheduled to go to trial on July 6, 2026.
