A 23-year-old man from Canton, Georgia, has been sentenced to 17 years, six months in prison for extorting teenage girls to send him pornographic images.
Destin Whitmore, of Canton, Georgia, was convicted of extortion, distribution of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney John Horn, Whitmore used a social media site to entice and then force nine minors to provide him with pornographic images of themselves. He threatened to send the images to other persons, including their family members, if they did not comply with his demands.
Whitmore used multiple fake aliases and his own Facebook account to transmit pornographic images of numerous teenage girls in order to extort them for additional images.
The investigation revealed that Whitmore contacted and extorted at least nine minors over a period of six months.
Whitmore pleaded guilty to the charges on September 22, 2014.
Assistant United States Attorneys Mary Webb and Paul R. Jones prosecuted the case.
This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
