Bank Robber Sentenced To 37 Months Imprisonment
HAMMOND – In a shocking turn of events, Kenneth Culver, a 39-year-old man from Steger, Illinois, has been sentenced to 37 months imprisonment for his involvement in a brazen bank robbery.
According to court documents, Culver, who pleaded guilty to 2 counts of bank robbery, committed the heinous crimes by passing notes to tellers at a Chase Bank in Munster, Indiana, demanding money. On August 12, 2014, Culver stole $2675, while on December 3, 2014, he made off with $1200.
What makes Culver’s crimes all the more egregious is that he was initially arrested and charged with the August robbery, but was released on bond. It was during this time that he committed the second offense, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of the community.
Culver’s crimes were the result of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Munster Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. McGrath handled the case, securing a guilty plea from Culver.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of bank robbery on our communities. The victims of Culver’s crimes, and the people of Munster, deserve justice, and it is our hope that this sentence brings them a measure of closure.
In addition to his 37 months imprisonment, Culver will also serve 2 years of supervised release. This sentence sends a strong message that bank robbery will not be tolerated in our society.
As we continue to fight against crime in our community, we urge anyone with information about similar crimes to come forward and report it to the authorities.
