Janis Sentenced for Felony Child Abuse
A Kyle woman has been sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in custody for her role in felony child abuse and neglect.
On January 8, 2016, Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, handed down the sentence to Jeannie Janis, 30, who was convicted of the charges.
The conviction stems from Janis causing serious bodily injury to her 5-month-old child in May of 2014, due to her neglect and multiple abusive episodes. Janis was indicted for the charge on February 18, 2015, and pled guilty on August 24, 2015.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
As part of her sentence, Janis was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. She will also serve 3 years of supervised release after completing her time in custody.
Janis was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. The case is a reminder of the severe consequences faced by those who commit acts of child abuse and neglect.
The investigation and prosecution of this case serve as a testament to the dedicated efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors in protecting the well-being of children and holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
