WICHITA FALLS, Texas
Janis Hernandez, 31, of Electra and Killeen, Texas, has been sentenced to 136 months in federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine distribution ring.
Hernandez pleaded guilty in June 2013 to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute methamphetamine, as charged in a federal indictment.
She admitted to distributing and facilitating the distribution of methamphetamine in Electra and Wichita Falls, Texas, between August and November 2012. Co-conspirator Darren Scott Murphy, Jr. supplied the methamphetamine, and Hernandez acted as an intermediary and broker to distribute it in Wichita Falls and introduced others to Murphy to obtain methamphetamine from him.
Hernandez also allowed Murphy to distribute methamphetamine from her home in Electra.
All seven defendants charged in the case have pleaded guilty, and most have been sentenced:
- Anthony Rueben Johnston, 28, to 480 months (40 years) in federal prison
- Rachel Dawn Billen, 21, to 36 months
- Louis Griego, Jr., 44, to 168 months
- James Allen Holley, 34, to 142 months
- Christina Gail Thompson, 32, to 42 months
The remaining defendant, co-conspirator Darren Scott Murphy, Jr., is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Reed C. O’Connor on January 27, 2014.
The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Wichita Falls Police Department, the Wichita County District Attorney’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary F. Walters is in charge of the prosecution.
Hernandez’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Reed C. O’Connor, who presided over the case.
