Idaho Labor Boss Exploited Child Migrants

BOISE, Idaho – Brayan Adiel Gramajo Reyes, a citizen of Guatemala, is facing federal charges after a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) probe uncovered a scheme to exploit vulnerable migrant children. Gramajo, arrested February 28th, allegedly lured two unaccompanied minors from Guatemala with promises of opportunity, only to subject them to harsh labor conditions upon their arrival in Idaho.

According to a federal indictment returned by a grand jury in Pocatello, Gramajo is charged with two counts of encouraging illegal entry of aliens into the United States. He further faces eight counts of using false statements to verify employment, falsely attesting to the legitimacy of Social Security numbers and work authorization for his employees. One count of unlawful employment of aliens rounds out the charges against him.

HSI Seattle acting Special Agent in Charge April Miller framed the arrest as a key victory in the agency’s fight against human trafficking. “Rescuing unaccompanied children who are tragically exploited and trafficked is a top HSI priority,” Miller stated. “Our investigation underscores HSI’s resolve to enforce our U.S. law and safeguard every child. Additionally, worksite enforcement is central to protecting our communities — targeting illegal employment networks, rescuing victims and stopping fraudulent business practices that harm real Americans.”

The investigation revealed that Gramajo allegedly convinced the two unaccompanied children to undertake the dangerous journey from Guatemala, preying on their hopes for a better life. Once in Idaho, those promises were broken, replaced by long hours of demanding physical labor. The specifics of the work haven’t been released, but sources close to the investigation suggest it involved back-breaking agricultural work.

This case is occurring against the backdrop of a larger crisis involving unaccompanied alien children arriving at the U.S. border. HSI claims it is dedicated to locating the 450,000 unaccompanied alien children who entered the country during the Biden administration. The agency alleges too many of these children have been victims of exploitation, trafficking, and abuse. They also claim the Trump administration located over 132,000 of these children. Grimy Times is independently verifying these figures.

The HSI investigation highlights a disturbing pattern of unvetted sponsors – allegedly including smugglers and sex traffickers – taking in these vulnerable children. While HSI focuses on rescue and prosecution, critics argue that a complete overhaul of the vetting process is needed to prevent further exploitation. Gramajo’s arrest is a single case in what authorities admit is a widespread and ongoing problem. Further details can be found on Justice.gov.
