New York – In a move aimed at enhancing transparency in police matters, New York Attorney General Letitia James today released disturbing body-worn camera footage from the investigation into the death of King Wong on April 14, 2025. The incident occurred following an encounter with NYPD officers in Queens.
Footage from the body cameras worn by responding officers was made public at the directive of Attorney General James to bolster trust and transparency in police investigations. At around 6:21 a.m., officers were dispatched to reports of a man wielding a knife on 31st Street, where they encountered King Wong. Despite repeated orders to drop the weapon, Wong refused. The outcome was fatal, with Wong being shot by the officers.
According to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is tasked with assessing every incident involving a police officer potentially causing death. If an officer’s role is deemed questionable, OSI conducts a thorough investigation, regardless of whether the officer was on-duty or off-duty, and if the deceased was armed or in custody.
The release of this footage is not intended to prejudice any party legally or suggest charges against any individual involved in the incident. However, it does offer the public a glimpse into the events that led to Wong’s death.
