NY AG Slams Trump’s Attack on Trans Youth Care

New York – In a scathing rebuke to the Trump administration’s latest policy proposal, Attorney General Letitia James has condemned efforts aimed at restricting access to gender-affirming care for transgender youth.

“This president would rather target young people than lower costs or expand access to health care,” James stated. “It is reprehensible that our federal government is intent on hurting and isolating the adolescents it is supposed to protect.”

The proposed policy, which includes eliminating federal reimbursement for youth gender-affirming care services and blocking Medicaid and Medicare funding to hospitals offering pediatric gender-affirming care, has been met with fierce opposition. James vowed to use all available tools to combat this initiative and safeguard the rights of transgender Americans.

In response to similar threats in the past, Attorney General James has emerged as a nationwide advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. In August 2025, she led a coalition of 15 states and Washington D.C. in a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its attempts to limit gender-affirming health care access.

Additionally, James has participated in amicus briefs opposing the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) subpoena for patient records related to pediatric gender-affirming care at Boston Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In February 2025, she issued a warning to New York providers that denying medically necessary health care to transgender patients may violate state anti-discrimination laws.
