MINOT, N.D. – In a stunning reversal of fortune for Jerome Bradley Fletcher, 38, of Minot, North Dakota, U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that the defendant has been sentenced to serve four years and three months in federal prison following his conviction on March 6, 2015. The sentence also mandates three years of supervised release after his term.
Fletcher was caught with two gun magazines containing 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition when he was stopped for a traffic violation in Minot on November 13, 2013. His flight from law enforcement led to the discovery of the deadly cache, which landed him in federal court.
The defendant’s conviction stems from his possession of ammunition, a clear breach of his rights due to 11 prior felony convictions. These include robbery in Oregon in 1995, being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2004, and possessing controlled substances in 2004 and 2006.
U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland presided over the sentencing hearing. As part of his punishment, Fletcher was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund.
The investigation into Fletcher’s dangerous possession was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Minot Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Hagler led the prosecution in this case.
Jerome Bradley Fletcher’s fate serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences that follow illegal weapon possession, even for repeat felons.
