CLEVELAND – A gritty Cleveland man is facing federal charges after allegedly hitting the U.S. Bank on Turney Road in Garfield Heights, Ohio. Daniel Leotto Johnson, 44, was indicted by a grand jury for bank robbery, according to Steven M. Dettelbach, the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
The grand jury’s one-count charge accuses Johnson of swindling the financial institution on October 15, 2013. Federal authorities are now pursuing justice under the guidance of Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Seabury Gould, following a thorough investigation by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and members of the Garfield Heights Police Department.
Johnson’s potential sentence hinges on a review of his criminal history, if any, as well as his role in the alleged offense. The Court will consider these unique factors before imposing a penalty that will not exceed the statutory maximum, with most cases seeing sentences less than the maximum allowed by law.
An indictment is merely an accusation and carries no evidence of guilt. Johnson is entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The case highlights the relentless pursuit of justice in the face of financial crime.
