Grimy Times Exclusive: In a stunning turn of events, Martin R. Bujaky, 63, from Gibsonia, Pa., has entered a guilty plea in Pittsburgh to charges of conspiracy and violating federal tax laws, as announced by United States Attorney David J. Hickton today.
Bujaky, an accountant, faced six counts before United States District Judge Terrence F. McVerry for his alleged role in harboring out-of-status aliens employed in the hotel housekeeping industry across multiple states. The evidence presented revealed that Bujaky conspired with others to prepare false tax returns for employers, failing to report wages as income between 2000 and 2007.
This fraudulent activity was not confined to Pittsburgh; it extended to Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Bujaky’s involvement in the scheme also included assisting in preparing false quarterly tax returns for B&M Best Consulting Co., where he understated payroll and employment taxes due to the IRS, leading to an estimated $3 million in unreported wages.
U.S. Attorney Hickton highlighted that the seven-year-long scheme resulted in a staggering tax loss of approximately $3.7 million. The law mandates a maximum sentence of 23 years in prison, a fine of $1.5 million, or both, depending on the severity of the offense and Bujaky’s prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Margaret E. Picking is the lead prosecutor for this case. The investigation that led to Bujaky’s prosecution was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, Department of Homeland Security- Homeland Security Investigations, and U.S. Department of Labor.
