New Orleans Business Owner and Doc Sentenced for $34M Medicare Fraud

New Orleans, LA – The gritty streets of New Orleans witnessed a monumental fall from grace as Elaine Davis, 60, and Pramela Ganji, M.D., 67, faced the music for their roles in a $34 million Medicare fraud scheme. Sentenced to 96 months behind bars, Davis, owner of medical service company Christian Home Health Inc. (Christian), was joined by Ganji, the company’s former medical director, who received a 72-month sentence.

The duo’s deceitful dance ended with Chief U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt imposing their sentences. The hearing set for December 7 will determine just how much restitution these fraudsters must cough up.

According to the grim details of the scheme, Davis orchestrated a fraudulent billing spree through Christian, bilking Medicare out of over $29.6 million by falsely claiming elderly and disabled recipients needed home health care services they never received. Ganji’s role was as sinister as it was silent – she certified patients for these non-existent services without ever examining them.

The evidence presented at trial painted a clear picture of a fraudulent enterprise, with Davis and Ganji working in tandem to defraud Medicare. Christian Home Health Inc.’s claims topped $34.4 million, an overwhelming majority of which were deemed fraudulent by the feds.

This crime-fighting victory was a collaborative effort between the FBI, HHS-OIG, and the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. Trial Attorneys William Kanellis, Antonio Pozos, and Drew Bradylyons prosecuted the case with unwavering dedication to justice.

Elaine Davis and Pramela Ganji’s sentences send a stark warning against healthcare fraud in New Orleans. The grim reality of their sentence underscores the severity of the crime they committed and the impact on the Medicare system that they sought to undermine.
