Shannon Lee Barlow, Illegal Firearm Possession, MO 2015

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — In a gripping display of justice, Shannon Lee Barlow, 42, from Monett, was today sentenced to four years and two months in federal prison without parole for illegal firearm possession.

Barlow’s criminal saga began on December 30, 2015, when law enforcement arrived at his residence to execute felony warrants. Armed with a sawed-off shotgun, Barlow refused to comply with police commands, leading to a tense standoff that lasted nearly half an hour. During the confrontation, Barlow threatened law enforcement and expressed his willingness to use deadly force against them.

Following his arrest, officers discovered methamphetamine paraphernalia in Barlow’s possession. He confessed to harboring a meth lab in his garage. Barlow’s brazen attitude was further exemplified when he claimed that had the arresting officer been male, he would have attempted to kill him.

Seven months later, Barlow faced another run-in with law enforcement when they discovered him asleep with a loaded handgun at his hip while investigating a suspicious vehicle. This incident led to Barlow’s second felony charge for illegal firearm possession.

Under federal law, it is strictly forbidden for felons to possess firearms or ammunition, a regulation Barlow has violated with two prior convictions for controlled substance possession. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney prosecuted the cases, and investigations were conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with local sheriff’s departments.

This stringent sentence sends a clear message about the consequences of illegal firearm possession and the severity of violent confrontations with law enforcement.
